MIXED RESULTS
Thursday 2nd October 2008
by
Ron Norris

Rangers' under 18's have enjoyed a mixed set of results over the week as they continue their Youth Association Cup group five qualifying campaign. First they romped home against Rushden a week ago but followed it up this Saturday with defeat against Wycombe.

Last Saturday Steve Brown's boys welcomed Rushden and Diamonds to Harlington and sent them packing after a 5-0 hammering. Antonio German got things off to the perfect start with a goal after just three minutes but there was a big gap before the flood gates opened. The R's second came with just 15 minutes left to play when Daniel Bailey headed home Terry Smith's cross and from there Rangers ran riot.

Josh Parker made it three with six minutes remaining, substitute Max Ehmer got the fourth before Parker's second in injury time completed the rout.

However this weekend the young R's wouldn't have things go as well at Wycombe. Steve Brown was beaten on his return to his old stomping ground as Rangers found themselves on the wrong end of a 2-1 result.

The home side took the lead through Dan Fitchett in the first half before Jerome Federico doubled the advantage in the second period. Rangers' consolation came through Terry Smith, scoring for second game running, but his stunning long range effort proved to be all we had to show for the mornings work.

Despite slipping to defeat we still top the Group five table and with the top three qualifying as well as the best fourth placed team amongst the groups then progression to the next round is still very much on.

We complete our group five fixtures this weekend when Southend United visit Harlington, news from that one will be online next week.
