RANGERS ROMP INTO
CUP SEMI
Tuesday 19th February 2008
by Ron Norris
The under 18’s
continued their 100% start to 2008 with a 5-1 win at Peterborough that
sends the lads into the Youth Association Cup Semi Final for the first
time since 2005.
After enjoying narrow
league wins over Northampton and Rushden and Diamonds since the turn of
the year attention turned to the long awaited quarter final. Rangers had
ensured progression from the group stage back in December and faced a
trip to a foggy Peterborough United.
Romone Rose, fresh from
a work experience loan spell at AFC Wimbledon, opened the scoring for
Rangers after ten minutes. Minutes later Aaron Morgan-Cummings doubled
the R's lead when he headed home to make it 2-0.
Jack Lyons struck back
for the home side to make it 2-1 at the break but Rangers responded in
fine style, demolishing Posh's resolve with three rapid fire second half
goals all within six minutes of each other.
Ten minutes after the
break Morgan-Cummings scored his second header of the night before
completing his hatrick just moments later, both came from Rose crosses.
Antonio German wrapped up the scoring for the night just after the hour
mark to complete a fine win for the young R's.
The other three area
quarter finals take place this weekend with Brighton facing Wycombe,
Oxford at home to Colchester and Rushden and Diamonds welcoming
Brentford. Rangers' opponents will be drawn from the winners of these
ties in the next few days.
This weekend it's back
to league action for QPR who still top the division despite having had
three games postponed already this year. As a result of Tuesday's
fixture the league tie between Rangers and Peterborough, originally
scheduled for last Saturday was moved to this Saturday at Harlington
with a 10:45 kick off. We'll have news from that one online early next
week. |
