ARTHUR DOUBLE IS
JUST CHAMPION
Tuesday 22nd April 2008
by Ron Norris
Chris Arthur scored the decisive goals for Rangers'
under 18's on Saturday morning in a 3-2 win over neighbours Brentford
that saw the lads crowned league champions for the second season
running.
The young R's knew going into this that a win would
confirm their second straight title, and after slipping up against
Southend last week they would make no such mistake this time around.
However it would prove to be anything but a stroll up.
At half time Rangers were one up thanks to Aaron
Morgan-Cummings eighth goal of the season but bottom side Brentford
fought back into it and found themselves 2-1 up midway through the
second period.
QPR weren't to be denied though as Arthur took the
game by the scruff of the neck, scoring his fourth and fifth goals of
the season to ensure that three points and the league championship were
theirs.
Congratulations to the lads on their achievement,
there's been a lot of talk about upgrading to academy status in the near
future and whilst it's clear we need to do so if we are to continue
developing good young prospects you can only beat what's in front of you
and Rangers have done a magnificent job in securing this championship.
There is still one more game to go for The R's,
they finish the campaign on Saturday with a home tie against Brighton
and Hove Albion. No doubt the Harlington regulars will give the
Champions a rapturous, and well deserved, round of applause.
QPR: Goodchild,
Coyne, Ford, Harris (Kesanmi),
Wright, Morgan-Cummings (Vanterpool), O'Brien, Maguire, Arthur,
Fernandez (Folkes), German. Subs not used: Smith. |
