DANNY'S
DEADLY DOUBLE
Rangers' under
18’s side ran out comfortable 3-1 winners over their Wycombe
Wanderers counterparts on a glorious winter’s morning at
Harlington last Saturday. Following the departure of Dean
Parrett it was great so see the lads turn in a professional and
focused display.
Rangers hit the
front as early as the second minute when Keiron St Aimie seized
on hesitation between the keeper and defence, gave the keeper
the eyes and slotted home.
The second came
midway through the second half when his strike partner Danny
Maguire curled home a beautiful freekick from twenty yards.
At the end of
the half and the start of the second Wycombe picked up, thanks
in no small part to their tricky number 11 who was drifting in
midfield and causing problems. Billy Coyne was assigned to man
to man mark him and such was the effect that he was withdrawn
before the ninety minutes was up.
Rangers third
came when St Aimie and Ramone Rose combine to create a chance
for Maguire and he swept home his second from twelve yards. The
Chairboys got one back shortly afterwards with a fine team goal
but they weren’t able to press on and make it a real contest.
Rose hit the outside of the post late on as Rangers went in
search of a fourth.
This win leaves
the R’s with a two point lead at the top with a game in hand
over their nearest challengers. Maguire played very well and it
was nice to see St Aimie back after so long out. He was blowing
well before halftime but after eighteen months of inactivity it
will take him a good while to get back to full fitness.
The victory
means Rangers have extended their lead in the South East
Conference table. We are now two points ahead of both Southend
and Gillingham and we’ve played a game less than them. Next week
Gallen’s lads have a chance to take another massive step towards
the title when they travel to face the Gills on Saturday
morning.
