SWANS FLY
PAST RANGERS
Rangers' under 18's side took
a break from league action this weekend to begin their Youth
Alliance Cup campaign against Swansea.
After enjoying
a one hundred percent league record so far this season hopes
were high that Joe Gallen's boys could get their cup campaign
off to a flying start.
Chris Goodchild
made his first start of the season in goal, behind a back four
of Billy Coyne, Aaron Goode, Karl Yelland and, also making his
first appearance, Lee Brown.
The midfield
was made up of Romone Rose, Matt O'Brien, Harry Smart and Matt
O'Connell whilst Ricky Sappleton was partnered by Danny Maguire
upfront.
Rangers created a host of chances
throughout the game, particularly in the second half when the
usually deadly Sappleton saw two good chances go to waste but
couldn't find a way past the Swans 'keeper. The profligate
performance would come back to haunt them fifteen minutes from
time when Swansea broke to score the only goal of the game and
take the three points.
So our first cup game ends in
defeat but with five more group fixtures to come the chance of
qualification is very much alive. The lads have the chance to
bounce straight back next Saturday when they travel to face
Brentford in the second game of this stage. The Bee's are
currently top of the table having enjoyed a 6-0 romp through
Plymouth this weekend.
