YOUTH TEAM
WIN AGAIN
Rangers’
under 18’s continued their winning run this weekend with a 1-0
victory over Southend United on Saturday morning.
Joe Gallen
made four changes to the team that hammered Plymouth 5-1 last
weekend, Reece Crowther continued in goal behind a back four of
Karl Yelland, Aaron Goode, Andrew Howell and Lee Brown. Keiron
Murtagh started his first game at this level on the right wing
with Matt O’Brien paired with Billy Coyne in central midfield,
Danny Maguire played wide whilst Ricky Sappleton continued his
partnership with James Folkes upfront.
Rangers
might have thought their luck was out in the first period as we
saw two goals were disallowed. First Coyne saw his strike ruled
out as offside after fifteen minutes then Sappleton had an
effort ruled out for a foul on the half hour mark.
Shortly
before the break the home side were awarded a golden chance to
take the lead from the spot when Aaron Goode’s challenge was
harshly penalised by the referee, however
Rhys Henry
saw his penalty saved by Reece Crowther.
The R’s finally made the breakthrough in the second half when
Murtagh headed home Yelland’s cross to seal the victory and make
it four straight wins in the league and a one hundred percent
record in November for Joe Gallen’s lads.
The win moves us up to third place in the South East Conference
table just two points off leaders Wycombe. Next week Rangers are
back at Harlington when they take on fifth placed Rushden and
Diamonds. That one kicks off at 10:45am
