RANGERS YOUNGSTERS LOSE TO ORIENT
Rangers under 18's fell to
their second Youth Alliance group defeat at the hands of Leyton
Orient on Saturday morning.
With Sean
Thomas playing on a work experience deal at Hendon, Tim
Sandercombe returned in goal for the R's, manager Joe Gallen
also welcomed back centre back Sheldon Hussey meaning Stefan
Bailey moved back into his natural central midfield role,
replacing Scott Donnelly, who was warming the bench for the
first team in Derby. Gallen's final change saw Andrew Howell
play at left back in place of the suspended Alex Sethi.
It took
an hour for Orient to break through the young R's, Bryan Glover
volleying home from just inside the area to give The O's the
lead. They doubled the advantage fifteen minutes later when
Shane Oakley's lob beat Sandercombe to find the net.
Orient 'keeper Alex Jennings took a bang on a the
noggin shortly afterwards and was left seeing stars, but not Ray
Jones, as the giant striker headed home to make it 2-1. Orient
then replaced their dazed keeper with a trialist striker who
managed to do enough to keep the home sides advantage intact.
The
defeat means that Rangers cannot qualify from their group and
progress to the knock out stages.
Even if
we beat third placed Portsmouth next week the top two sides play
each other at the same time meaning whatever result they produce
is enough to prevent us finishing on top.
QPR:
Sandercombe, Yelland, Munday, Hussey,
Howell, Sappleton (Luz), Smart (Ngongou), Bailey, Bernard,
Jones, Baidoo.
We play our
final Youth Association Cup group game at home to Portsmouth on
Saturday 5th November, kick off is at 10:45am. |
