SAPPLETON
STRIKES AGAIN
Ricky Sappleton bagged his
fourteenth goal of the season as the Under 18's drew 1-1 with
Brentford at Harlington on Saturday morning.
Joe Gallen fielded a number of
under 16's and trialists in his starting eleven and it showed in
the first half as the young R's struggled to find top gear. We
found it hard to create many clear cut chances and what we did
manage was shut out by an impressive Brentford centre back
pairing.
The Bee's can count themselves
very unlucky not to have been well in command by the break
having seen a goal disallowed and spurned a number of good
chances. However it was Rangers that went in the happier side
when Sappleton drilled home from the edge of the box only
moments before the half time whistle.
The second half followed a similar
pattern with Brentford dominating possession and Rangers working
hard to find another break. However it wasn't to be and the away
side scored midway through the half to level the game at 1-1.
Away from Harlington, league
leaders Brighton fell to their first defeat of the season, going
down 1-0 at Colchester, however having won their game in hand
against Portsmouth last weekend The Seagulls are still nine
points clear of Rangers and both sides have seven games to play.
Next week the
top two meet when Rangers travel south to face Brighton at
Sussex University. Kick off for that one is at eleven o'clock,
if the lads can pull out a win then it could make the rest of
the season pretty interesting. |
