MATT PICKENS THEM OUT OF THE NET
Tuesday 25th March 2008
by Ron Norris
An extremely young reserve team side was easily
beaten 3-0 at league leaders Charlton this afternoon in a fixture played
behind closed doors.
Matt Pickens played his second successive game at
this level but lined up behind a very inexperienced outfield ten which
was made up entirely of under 18's players.
Michael Wright, Josh Ford, Ed Harris and Lee Brown
were in defence, Billy Coyne, Matt O'Brien and Terry Smith made up the
midfield three whilst Aaron Morgan-Cummings, Antonio German and Chris
Arthur were the three pronged strike force.
Charlton however boasted the likes of Luke Varney,
Dean Sinclair, Jonathan Fortune and Rashid Yussuff in their line up.
Yussuff opened the scoring after only five minutes
with a left footed drive, Varney doubled the lead within the first
twenty minutes, slamming home the rebound after Pickens had saved his
initial effort then two minutes later it was game over as Ben Godfrey
tapped home the third.
Romone Rose and Danny Maguire were both deployed
from the bench but there was no way back into this one and the reserves
now sink to bottom of the combination league having not won a league
game this year.
Next up for the reserves is another tough away
fixture this time at fifth placed Watford. That one takes place on
Monday and kicks off at 7pm.
