The pointless Pontins Holidays Combination league creaked back into action this evening as Rangers reserves played their solitary fixture of November and the first in six weeks. Let’s hope no one needed some match practise this month.

Rangers faced Millwall in an evening kick off at Loftus Road and lined up with the usual mix of youth and experience but there was one eyebrow raiser in the starting eleven.  Ugo Ukah who apparently left the club last summer for Italian side Nourese Calcio and hasn’t been heard of since apparently started at right back.

At the time of his supposed departure Gianni Paladini was pleased to announce his transfer came with the added benefit of a fifty percent sell on clause, maybe we bought him ourselves to try and make a few quid back.

Sean Thomas was in goal tonight and with Ukah in the back four were Aaron Goode, Maura Milanese and Matt Hislop. There was a bit of a buggers muddle in midfield with Shabazz Baidoo and Matthew Rose joining Taka Watanabe and tonight’s skipper – Scott Donnelly. Upfront Ray Jones was paired with the returning Adam Czerkas.

A flurry of early chances for the visitors demonstrated the kind of night The R’s were in for and it didn’t take long for the deadlock to be broken when Gavin Grant found the back of the net after thirteen minutes. Grant then turned provider for the second on the half hour mark as his cross found the head of Kevin Braniff who made no mistake from close range.

Former R’s stopper Chris Day played his part in keeping Rangers shut out and the points were wrapped up with twenty minutes remaining through Fil Morais’ twenty yard free kick.

The later stages saw deserved run outs for in form youth teamers, Matt O’Brien, James Foulkes and Andrew Howell but there was little impact they could make on a game lost long before their arrivals.

So that’s four games without a win in the Combination League now for Rangers and we slip to sixth in the little eight team table. We are back in action in a mere three weeks time when we travel to face Brighton.
