Rangers were unable to hold onto a
one goal lead in Justin Skinner’s
first outing as reserve team boss as
his side were beaten at Loftus Road
by Brighton. A first half lead and a
double penalty save came to nothing
as a quick fire double did for the
R’s second string.
Skinner selected a mixed bag of
players with youth and experience
teaming up all over the field.
Thomas was in goal behind Yelland,
Kanyuka, Howell and Hislop. Bailey,
Tchakounte, Bircham and Donnelly
lined up in midfield behind a front
two of Baidoo and Gallen.
Rangers took the lead when Baidoo
slotted home a Stefan Bailey cross
after a quarter of n hour. Rangers
also missed further chances through
Hislop and Kanyuka before Sean
Thomas turned in some heroics.
Brighton were awarded a penalty when
Hislop fouled Frutos and Joe Gatting
stepped forward to take the kick.
Thomas denied him with a fine low
save only to see the ref penalise
him for moving to early. Gatting
stepped up again and Thomas saved
again to keep the score at 1-0 going
into the break.
Early in the second half Thomas
saved a Doug Loft header before
Gatting fired a two minute double
salvo. Firstly he looped a header
past Thomas before rattling in a
screamer from distance with Rangers
still trying to regroup.
Skinner’s men tried to rally and
Donnelly, Bircham and Gallen all
went close but to no avail. As
always in these games, a decent
result is nice but not the be all
and end all. A full ninety minutes
from Gallen, Shabba’s goal and a
good display from young Thomas are
all positives that can be drawn from
this one. |
