A double salvo from Shabazz Baidoo and another for the, next striker off the youth team production line, Ricky Sappleton, gave Rangers a comfortable 3-0 win over their Aldershot counterparts at The Recreation Ground.

Justin Skinner named a side that was predominantly based on youth aside from three players searching for match fitness. Cole was in goal behind a back four of Goode, Kanyuka, Howell and Hislop. Oliseh, Bailey, Tchakounte and Baidoo were in midfield behind a front two of Czerkas and Nygaard.

Baidoo put Rangers ahead in the 15th minute when he came inside from his unfamiliar left wing berth and rattled a low shot past the Shots keeper. Czerkas and Nygaard both went close after that before Czerkas had a penalty appeal waved away. He does seem to go down in a slightly theatrical manner so he may not have done himself any favours.

Nygaard came off at half time having got a much needed forty five minutes under his belt and was replaced by Ricky Sappleton, fresh from another impressive youth team display on Saturday. The burly sixteen year old almost scored the second ten minutes into the half but could only find the keepers arms.

He grabbed his goal with fifteen minutes to play when he slotted home from inside the box. Shabba then scored a real opportunists goal when he got hold of a poor clearance from the Shots keeper and tucked the ball away.

A good win for the R’s and more importantly some much needed game time for Oliseh, Czerkas and Nygaard. It is great to see that the youngsters are making real progress at this level and in Sappleton we have a youngster that could, with the right coaching and attitude, become a real menace. Baidoo seems to have come on a bundle this season already and I think he will have an important part to play for much of the campaign.
