Rangers’ reserves were held to a 2-2
draw by their counterparts from
Wycombe Wanderers at Adams Park this
afternoon. Had it not been for a
contentious last minute penalty
Stefan Moore’s double strike would
have seen Rangers run out
victorious.
The line up was a mixture of youth,
experience and potential cast offs.
Cole was in goal behind a back four
of Yelland, Ukah, Evatt and Hislop.
Miller, Bean, Lomas and Howell were
in midfield with Townsend and Moore
up top.
Rangers took the lead in the first
half thanks to a twice taken
penalty. Stefan Moore climbed to
head a Miller cross against the bar
and the referee saw an infringement.
Moore took the pen but it was saved
by Wanderers keeper Sean Alloway
saved his poor effort. The ref
decided that he had moved too soon
though and Moore gave him no chance
with his second attempt.
Jake Cole was forced off with an
ankle injury midway through the
first half. It remains to be seen
how long he is out for, if it is for
any length of time then he may well
be able to get his impending FA ban
out of the way. For those that don’t
know he has been charged with
violent conduct for rushing to the
aid of a team mate who was being
assaulted. How dare he…
Halfway through the second half
Wycombe equalised thanks to Jonny
Dixon (a player who always seems to
impress against Rangers). Rashid
Kamara made the opening for Dixon
and he slotted calmly past sub
keeper Sean Thomas.
Rangers retook the lead when Adam
Miller’s headed pass sent Moore
racing goalward. He kept cool to
slide the ball past Alloway and
claim his second of the game. Things
seemed rosy until a contentious
penalty in the dying seconds handed
Wycombe a lifeline.
Evatt was adjudged to have fouled
Dixon and the same player dusted
himself off to claim his brace from
the spot. Although the team may have
been disappointed not to have won
the main aim of the afternoon was
accomplished and that was to get
Steve Lomas through the full ninety
minutes. Hopefully we will see him
in the middle of the park for the
first team sooner rather than later. |
