Reading's dominating season seems to be stretching to all levels of their football. They saw off our reserves 2-0 this afternoon and now need just one more win to clinch the Combination League title.

Joe Gallen named a very young looking starting line up, and Georges Santos, for the short trip along the M4 and was delighted with the performance, even if the result didn't go our way.

Jake Cole was in goal with Santos playing alongside under 18's regulars Karl Yelland, Jonathan Munday and Andrew Howell in the back four. Ugo Ukah found himself in a midfield slot for this one with Stefan Bailey, Phil Cousins and Matthew Hislop all included in a defensive midfield selection. Scott Donnelly provided the attacking guile with Luke Townsend heading the R's front line.

Rangers had an early scare when Reading's Pierre Joseph-Dubois had one ruled out for offside, this was sandwiched between two efforts that The Royals could have done better with. First Simon Church found himself clear of the R's defence but dragged his shot wide of Cole's goal and then Curtis Osano got on the end of a corner but also saw his shot go past the post.

Reading continued to be profligate in front of goal throughout the half and as the break approached Joseph-Dubois found himself clear of the defence once again and will be disappointed with his poor effort at a finish.

However as the second half got going Reading became much more clinical, a nice overlapping run down the left hand side left former Bristol City full back Scott Golbourne with the opportunity to cross to Jem Karacan who made no mistake with his header to put Reading in front. It took Reading the rest of the half to double their lead, as the final seconds ticked away Liam Marum saw his shot pushed away by Cole but Simon Cox was on hand to finish it off and make the final score 2-0.

Regardless of the result Joe Gallen was full of praise for his young stars with Scott Donnelly and Stefan Bailey particularly standing out in front of the watching Gary Waddock. You never know, they might even get more than two minutes off the bench on Saturday now.

Rangers' reserves play their final game of the season next Tuesday afternoon when we face Millwall at Loftus Road, kick off for that one is 2pm.
