Rangers' second string ran out 5-0 winners after an excellent showing at a rain lashed Woking. In a match they were firmly in control of all evening the scoreline took a far more one sided look after a frenetic final period.Rangers started the game brightly with Tony Thorpe in particular looking sharp after his lay off with an ankle injury. He was linking well with youth team striker Luke Townsend and with Hamilton and McLeod drifting in off their wings it was a surprise that it took so long for the opener to come.

Having already been denied a stonewall penalty following an apparent trip on Townsend Rangers hit the front courtesy of Thorpe. Having been played through he twisted and turned his way into the box leaving his marker sitting on his posterior. He then took his time to coolly slot the ball past former Rangers trialist Adriano Basso.

Woking had a good spell shortly before the break and Michael Johnson in particular was threatening down their left flank. Jake Cole was forced into an excellent double save to keep Rangers in the ascendancy at the break. The only sour note of the first half was the sight of Hamilton limping off to be replaced by Andrew Judge.

Things picked up in the second half and Rangers rattled in a procession of stunning goals. First on the score sheet was Townsend who had been in impressive form all evening. Picking the ball up on the right edge of the box he turned inside his man before whipping a curling shot over the keeper and in off the underside of the bar.

Next to score was Donnelly. The impish midfielder seized on the ball following a good run from Kevin McLeod. He took time to steady himself before crashing a shot in off the left hand post. It was yet another goal to add to the catalogue of corkers he is racking up for the reserves. Not long after he was forced to limp out of the game having taken a blow to the ankle.

Townsend added his second ten minutes before the end. A neat through ball from Thorpe saw Townsend attacking the Woking defence and thanks to some luck he was through onto the keeper. He sent a curling left footer flying past the Woking custodian into the roof of the net. He was within a whisker of scoring a hat-trick only minutes later when he lashed another left footed effort just inches over the bar.

With three minutes left Macca scored yet another peach. Now playing through the middle he also ran at his man before turning inside and letting fly from twenty yards. Once more the keeper was pawing thin air as the ball crashed into the net.

This was an excellent display from Rangers. Defensively they were pretty solid which was good given that three of the starting back four were under 19 years of age. Big Pat Kanyuka looks a real prospect. Keeper Cole was scarcely troubled and when he was he did his work with the minimum of fuss. Donnelly played well in flashes and his goal was special, Mulholland alongside him was industrious as was Andrew Judge when he came on. Thorpe and Townsend linked well in attack with the latter showing that he could well be the next one with his name on a first team shirt.
