A very young Rangers’ reserve side
went down 1-0 tonight at the MK Dons
hokey stadium in Milton Keynes.
Former R’s skipper Steve Palmer is
now in charge of the Franchise’s
reserves and this was their sixth
win on the bounce. Rangers fielded
an entire outfield aged 18 or under,
with keeper Generoso Rossi being the
only player over twenty.
The back four lined up with Karl
Yelland at right back, Patrick
Kanyuka and Jonathan Munday at
centre back and Daniel Murphy on the
left side. Usually a centre half,
John Fletcher continued in the
unaccustomed central midfield role
he filled for the youth team last
week. He was alongside Scott
Mulholland with Matt O’Connell, and
Andrew Howell completing the centre
of the park.
Up front saw youth team top scorer
Shabazz Baidoo once again partnered
by the Giant, Ray Jones who scored
two for the under 18’s on Good
Friday. In fact all of the outfield
players in the line up tonight
featured in the under 18’s side that
demolished Swindon 5-0, Shabazz
Baidoo also got on the score sheet
in that one.
Despite coming into the game off the
back of that good performance this
was always going to be a tough one
for the lads and so it proved when
Malvin Kamara scored the only goal
of the game to take all three points
for the Milton Keynes based side.
Being a fairly close ground I was
tempted to pay it a visit, to cheer
the lads on and chalk a ground off
the 92 without crossing the official
picket line! However the 7pm start
made it impossible for me to make it
on time. I did phone up but they
wouldn’t put the kick off in a
reserve match back for just for one
person, although apparently it might
be worthwhile for a first team game.
This was Rangers’ second defeat on
the bounce at this level having been
beaten 2-0 at Northampton last week.
The second string are next in action
on the 12th April when
we face Crawley at Loftus Road with
a 2pm kick off. This is our last
home match of the season before
ending with away trips to
Peterborough and Stevenage.
