Luton went top of the combination league this afternoon with a 2-0 win over Rangers’ reserves at Loftus Road.

Rangers lined up with Chris Day in goal. Lewis Hamilton, fresh from his successful loan spell at Kingstonian started at right back, Matthew Rose and youth team regular Ryan Johnson were the centre backs with Aaron Brown once again fielded at left back.

The midfield was made up of Scott Mulholland on the right, Adam Miller and the returning Marc Bircham in the centre and Sonny Farr on the left wing. Upfront saw Luke Townsend partner Tony Thorpe, who was facing his old side.

A goalless first half saw Rangers lose Ryan Johnson to injury with fellow youth team defender, John Fletcher taking his place.

Despite carving out some decent chances Rangers fell behind after seventy minutes with a close range effort Luton sub Russell Perrett. The Hatters then doubled their advantage eleven minutes later through Enoch Showunmi to wrap up the points for Luton.

The win was Luton’s sixth successive victory and it was enough to send them above Millwall at the top of the table, although they have played ten games, compared to Rangers’ six.

Next up for the second string is a visit to Gillingham on Wednesday 9th February in the third, and last group game of the Pontins Holidays Cup competition. The next league game is on the 16th February at Southend United.
