Rangers’ reserves lost the final
group game of the Pontins Holidays
Combination Cup this after a late
goal snatched victory for
Gillingham.
The team line up had a much younger
look to it than in previous weeks,
Chris Day started in goal behind a
back four of Lewis Hamilton, Patrick
Kanyuka, Ryan Johnson and Daniel
Murphy.
The midfield featured Adam Miller,
Marc Bircham, Marcus Bean and Aaron
Brown, who was making his fourth
reserve appearance since recovering
from his broken leg. Up front Luke
Townsend was partnered by trialist
Aaron Samuel, who also played for
the under 18’s against West Brom
last weekend.
Two equalisers from Adam Miller
pegged back John Wallis and Dean
Beckworth strikes for Gillingham but
it wasn’t enough for Rangers to get
anything out of the game, the Gills
nicked the win ten minutes from time
through Matt Bodkin.
That means Rangers have taken just
two points from the three group
games of the Combination Cup leaving
qualification to the knock out
rounds looking very unlikely.
Result aside, the other
disappointment for Rangers was an
injury to Aaron Brown, who came off
in the second half with a hamstring
strain. |
