For the second game in a row,
Rangers felded a very young reserve
side. However after being beaten by
MK Dons two weeks ago, this time the
kids were alright and beat the
visitors 1-0 thanks to a Ryan
Johnson goal.
Gary Waddock lined his side up with
goalkeeper Sean Thomas making his
second reserve team appearance of
the season, the regular under 18’s
back four of Karl Yelland, Ryan
Johnson, Patrick Kanyuka and Daniel
Murphy lined up alongside each
other. In midfield Scott Mulholland,
John Fletcher and Wes Thomas were
joined by trialist John Hastings
whilst upfront Luke Townsend was
partnered by a second trialist,
Shane Smeltz.
The first and only goal of the game
came after just five minutes, a neat
finish from centre back Johnson from
John Fletcher’s corner. In a fairly
uneventful game, special praise was
reserved for Wes Thomas who proved
to be a real live wire, his pace and
constant trickery kept the Crawley
rearguard on their toes until a
knock just before half time slowed
down his input. At the other end
Rangers centre back pairing of
Johnson and Kanyuka were their usual
composed selves and keeper Sean
Thomas was rarely troubled.
This was Rangers first reserve team
win after two defeats on the bounce
and the last home game of the
season. We have two games left to
play, away trips to Peterborough and
Stevenage.
