Rangers' reserves ran out 1-0
winners in the reserve game against
Southend United this afternoon. In a
match that will have came as a
surprise to the R's fans Rangers
fielded a mixture of youth and
experience in this fixture and also
included a striker on trial.
There was a return to action for
Arthur Gnohere in central defence
and Terrell Forbes continued his
rehabilitation into the Rangers
squad. Ben Walshe, so often the
forgotten man of QPR was on the left
wing, his loan at Gravesend &
Nothfleet having come to an end. The
two Scott's, Donnelly and Mulholland,
lined up in the middle of the park
and trialist Cedric Moukouri, from
French second division outfit
Strasbourg, joined Richard Pacquette
in attack.
Southend had much the better of the
first half with Chris Day being
forced into action on more than one
occasion. Rangers' only efforts were
a shock effort on target from Forbes
and a wild header from Moukouri.
Things picked up after the break
when Moukouri put Rangers ahead
after 50 minutes.
Pacquette jinked his way into the
box before lashing a shot that Gary
Holloway, a trialist for Rangers
earlier in the season, parried. The
ball fell into the path of Moukouri
and he tucked the ball away. Ben
Walshe also came close with a long
range effort that cleared Holloway's
bar without troubling him unduly.
This was another good win for
Rangers albeit against a side that
has yet to register a win in the
Pontins Crocodile Club Knockabout
Reserve Team Thingy this season.
This was their third win in four
games and Olly will doubtless be
happy at the way this young team has
finished the season. There is plenty
for Olly to think about from his
youth teamers that have made the
step up and he will be glad of the
input that Timmy Breacker has in
these youngsters' development.
