QPR's reserve side were held to a 1-1 draw by an experienced Peterborough United side at Chestnut Avenue this evening. The game saw another run out for both Ainsworth and Day as they continued their rehab from recent injuries.

As is the case for every reserve game these days the team was largely based around our free scoring U17's side. This meant that there was another chance to see the precocious talents of John Fletcher, Scott Donnelly, Stefan Bailey and Sonny Farr against bigger, stronger opponents. There was also another chance to see the versatile Lewis Hamilton, a product of the Derby County Academy. He is a defender that looks equally adept at both right and left full back. Unfortunately he pulled a muscle and had to leave the action midway through the first half.

There was little goal mouth action to speak of in the first period. Donnelly tried his luck from distance on two occasions, the first one going high and wide, and the second straight down the keeper's throat. Andy Clarke should have done better at the other end but a combination of Fletcher and Day were on hand to deny him.

The second half was a brighter affair altogether with both teams benefiting from a bit more football being played. Andy Clarke saw a shot come back off the post after a good run, but it was Rangers that took the lead courtesy of Richard Pacquette. Donnelly picked the ball up in the middle of the park and played a perfect through ball to Pacquette. He took time to steady himself before slotting the ball calmly past Luke McShane.

The equaliser was to come soon after though from what looked to be a slightly soft penalty. Moments before the award Ifura had seen a freekick go against him for a clash of heads, and it looked to be another routine challenge that drew the penalty. There looked to be little wrong with the challenge and the award surprised everybody. Day was easily beaten from the spot.

Pacquette should have scored another when he found himself one on one with McShane again. This time he was not as level headed as the first time and he lashed his shot into the car park. Pacquette almost got on the end of an Ainsworth cross after more good work from Donnelly but the ball was smuggled clear.

In the end a draw was probably a fair result and Rangers can be pleased with their work against a Posh side that contained several players that have featured in their first team this season. There was even time for a quick cameo appearance from fourteen year old Kieran St Aimie and he showed that he had a decent touch in the short time he was on.
