Rangers' reserves crashed to a 3-0
defeat at Norwich City this evening.
Given the almost adolescent nature
of the team this will hardly come as
a shock to anybody. The new policy
of giving youth it's head has never
been more evident.
The starting
line up included "experienced"
campaigners such as Nick Culkin,
Marcus Bean, Dennis Oli and Ben
Walshe. The withdrawal of Bean and
Oli at the break, clearly with a
view to Saturday, meant that Ben
Walshe, with a grand total of one
first team start under his belt, was
the main man.
Unsurprisingly, Norwich scored three
goals after the break through Greg
Crane, Phil Mulryne and teenage
prodigy Ryan Jarvis. The half will
maybe be more notable for the
appearance of Scott Donnelly. The
England U17 international is
extremely highly regarded within the
club and I for one will be keen to
see him progress well in the
reserves this season.
Despite the result, for the
youngsters to play against
experienced pros like Phil Mulryne,
Zema Abbey and Iwan Roberts will
have done them no harm at all.
The reserves next opponents are
Gillingham at Chestnut Avenue on 2nd
September and Timmy Breacker will be
hoping for a few more experienced
heads to pick from. I wouldn't hold
my breath if I were him!
