Chris
Day and Jamie Cureton featured today
as Rangers reserves won 2-1 against
Northampton Town at Sixfields. The
game also saw four trialists turn
out for the R's including former
Blackburn star Paul Warhurst.
Warhurst can play in many positions
and all of them just as effectively,
this afternoon however he lined up
in central defence alongside John
Fletcher. Charlton trialist Simon
Jackson and former Ranger Matthew
Brazier were the full backs.
Midfield was made up of Dennis Oli
on the right, Giles Coke and Karl
Beckford (a second Charlton
trialist) in the centre with the
impressive Sonny Farr on the left.
Upfront was the pairing of Cureton
and Eric Sabin.
All
the goals came within the first half
with Rangers taking the lead on
eighteen minutes through Dennis Oli.
A free kick from Jamie Cureton was
cleared back to him and Curo crossed
back in for Oli to head home. After
not exactly being the most prolific
at this level, Oli has now got two
in the last two for the reserves and
maybe this could see the making of
him.
The
Cobblers levelled the scores within
three minutes, Tom Youngs slotting
home after Day parried the initial
shot but Rangers took the lead from
the spot after Sabin was felled by
the Northampton scorer. Eric stepped
up to slot home his second reserve
strike of the season.
Rangers weathered a Northampton
storm in the second half with Chris
Day making at least four good saves
to help Rangers earn all three
points.
After
a shaky start to the season Tim
Breaker's men are now in fine form
having won three Combination
fixtures on the trot, scoring seven
and only conceding one.
