Rangers reserve's were soundly
beaten this afternoon at Reading by
four goals to nil. Looking on the
bright side though Nick Culkin came
through the game unscathed after
being out of action for some time.
Culkin
lined up behind a Rangers team that
included several experienced
players, Chris Plummer continued his
return from injury and with Doudou,
Thompson, Padula and Dennis Oli in
the starting line up perhaps the
result was a little disappointing.
Rangers reserve regular Marien Ifura
lined up alongside Plummer in
defence with Danny Murphy at left
back and Nathan Stamp continuing his
development at right back. It was a
4-3-3 formation for the R's today
with a midfield three of Wes Daly,
Gino Padula and Marcus Bean and
Thommo, Oli and Doudou up front.
Reading fielded an experienced side
themselves which included Sammy Igoe
in midfield and Martin Butler
upfront. Butler hit a hatrick of
goals for the other hoops, his first
coming from the penalty spot on ten
minutes to send Reading in at half
time with the lead. The advantage
was doubled shortly after the break
by Darius Henderson before Butler
added the third and fourth goals to
compound Rangers fate.
Still
points isn't just what reserve team
football is about and it's
encouraging to see both Culkin and
Plummer get ninety minutes under
their belt. Culkin's return will add
further competition to our
goalkeeping position and Plums
deserves a break (no pun intended)
from injury and it's always good to
see him do well. |
