Rangers reserves fought out a one all draw against Cambridge United's second string at The Abbey Stadium this afternoon with consistently impressive youngster David Booles netting the QPR goal.

Cambridge started the game with two schoolboy trialists at centre half and with Rangers fielding a front two of Andy Thomson and Richard Pacquette you would think that the fledgling Cambridge defence would be severely tested.

However it was Cambridge who started the brighter, two chances in the first half hour tested Nick Culkin's goal and it was only a matter of time before they took the lead. Just after the half hour a routine corner was spilled by Culkin to the feet of Lloyd Opara who made no mistake from ten yards.

The goal spurred Rangers onwards and good efforts from Pacquette and Thomson were met with fine saves from Martin Brennen. The half ended with the U's in front but with Rangers in ascendancy.

Half time saw a long pitch inspection due to the torrential weather, however after an extra ten minutes of deliberating the players returned to the complete the match in worsening conditions.

Rangers finally struck back in the 78th minute, Dennis Oli had by now replaced Pacquette up front whilst young Booles had come on for Griffiths on the left and it was the two substitutes who combined for the equaliser. Oli's cross was met by Boole's, whose shot was helped into the net by the unfortunate Chris Wild.

U's keeper Brennen was forced off with a broken nose and six minutes left to play after a clash with Boole's. Cambridge had by then used all their substitutes and had to play out the remaining time with ten men and an outfield player in goal. However Rangers couldn't break them down and settled for their first away point in the Combination for four games.
