Rangers reserves ran out 4-2 winners
against Bournemouth at Chestnut
Avenue this evening. A young team
battled well against both their
opponents and the inclement second
half weather to run out easy
winners.
Rangers took the lead early in the
first half courtesy of Leroy
Griffiths. Richard Pacquette
unleashed a shot from the edge of
the box which was parried by the
Cherries keeper. The ball rolled
into the path of Leroy who smashed
home from five yards out.
The
rest of the half passed without much
incident other than an impressive
performance from a trialist centre
half. The big six as he will be
known in the absence of a team sheet
(more on that later) met every
challenge thrown at him and he
fitted in with his colleagues
superbly.
Bournemouth equalised early in the
second half only for Rangers to hit
back within minutes. Ben Walshe was
the man to grab the goal, albeit in
a fortuitous manner. Playing in an
unaccustomed right wing position he
checked and flung over a cross.
Pacquette went for it at the near
post, missed it, and the ball sailed
past the keeper and in.
The
Cherries soon hit back and the goal,
whilst looking pretty, owed an awful
lot to the fitness of Nick Culkin.
Culkin hadn't taken a goal kick or
freekick all night, leaving each one
to David Booles. When the
Bournemouth player cut inside and
fired at goal Culkin went down in
instalments and got nowhere near it.
He got up rather gingerly as well
and I wouldn't be surprised if he
missed out on a place on the bench
at Colchester.
Rangers went back into the lead via
a Richard Pacquette header. Leroy
and Walshe combined well on the left
hand side and Walshe sent over a
superb cross to the far post.
Pacquette was on hand to nod past
the keeper for the simplest of
finishes.
The
goal of the night came close to full
time and was once again from
Pacquette. The big six pumped a long
ball up field and the ball bounced
awkwardly for the Rangers striker.
Undeterred he readjusted his feet
and lobbed the ball over the
advancing keeper.
This
was another decent performance and
keeps up the reserve teams excellent
home record. This is in stark
contract to the away record which
could be best described as crap. The
big six, whoever he was, did well
and looks worth another look.
Rangers brought on two unknown subs
as well and I would tell you who
they were but there weren't any team
sheets available to the fans. The
reason. Somebody from the club
forgot to phone the team through!
Organisation is the key to success
