The Pre-Match Warm Up
Tuesday 30th August 2005
by Ron Norris & Simon Skinner

Rangers' are back on their travels and back on Sky TV on Tuesday night when we face Glenn Hoddle's Wolves at Molineux. Will we bring a decent result back down the M6 with us? Will we score our first goal away from home this season?

TEAM NEWS
Georges Santos is the most likely of our recent absentee's to be declared fit for Tuesday's game. Santos has been suffering from a calf injury of late but only just missed the Sheffield Wednesday game last week after failing a late fitness test. If he is passed as fit Olly will have to decide whether to continue with Matthew Rose at centre back or drop him in favour of the big Frenchman. Martin Rowlands is said to have an outside chance of recovering from his knee injury but it is thought the Southampton game is a more likely return date. If Rowly doesn't make it Aaron Brown could return on the left flank after a disappointing showing from Adam Miller last week, alternatively Kevin Gallen could make up the midfield numbers with Stefan Moore providing some pace upfront. Ian Evatt returns from suspension and could feature on the bench but Lee Cook, Mark Nygaard and Dean Sturridge all remain sidelined.

Glenn Hoddle has said he is delighted that this match was put back twenty four hours otherwise he may have been without three key players. Striker George Ndah, defender Joleon Lescott and winger Darren Anderton are all expected to play thanks to the extra days rest - great! However Jody Craddock and Paul Ince both missed the weekend game and are expected to sit this one out as well.

A QUICK GUIDE TO OUR OPPONENTS

WOLVES IN BRIEF

Glenn Hoddle looks to be doing a decent job at Wolves right now, they've stumbled a little over the last two games but there's no doubt they posses the quality needed to make a serious promotion bid. They have plenty of options upfront with players like Miller, Cort and Ndah always likely to get goals at this level and with experienced heads in Anderton and Ince in the squad they could be a force to be reckoned with if they can pull it all together this season.

RUBBISH FACT

Between the 26th October 1938 and April 6th 1963 England played 148 internationals and Wolves were represented by at least one player in every one of them.

RANGERS VERSUS

LAST TIME OUT

Rangers and Wolves last met at Loftus Road in February this year  when, after leading from the eleventh minute, Rangers threw away two points in the last few minutes thanks to a Carl Cort equaliser.

OTHER MEETINGS

We always seem to struggle against Wolves, with a draw being the best we can usually hope for. We've beaten them just once in the last ten meetings and you have to go back seven games to find our last win at Molineux, a 2-1 victory in September 1998.

GENERAL INFORMATION

THE REFEREE

Nigel Miller from Co. Durham takes charge of Tuesday's game. This is his third full season in the Football League and he's only officiated Rangers on one previous occasion, a 3-0 home win over Burnley last season.

QPR CONNECTIONS

We signed Simon Osborn from Reading in 1995 for £1.1 million. He was supposed to take the pressure of player/manager Ray Wilkins so Butch could concentrate more on running the team rather than being in it. However after five months at the club and just eight starts he was sold to Wolves for a million pounds. He spent six seasons at Molineux and is still playing today, with League One side Walsall.

RON AND SIMON'S PREDICT-OFF
RON: Glenn Hoddle was angry with his side after their 2-2 draw with Cardiff on Saturday, however the stat that worried me was that they created thirty one shots on goal during the match! To put that in context we've only managed fifty six shots all season. With the combination of decent side in Wolves, intimidating atmosphere in Molineux and our awful away record I don't see us getting much out of Tuesdays game. Perhaps we'll score, that'd be a step in the right direction, but we never do well at Wolves and I think we'll be tasting defeat again. 2-1 to Wolves

SIMON: After being held to a 0-0 draw by Sheffield Wednesday on Friday night this one promises to be a tougher affair against a far better side. Hoddle's side have been playing well without really putting the boot into anyone and he has told them this must change. Such is our away form and our alarming lack of goals on the road it seems certain that if they score they will win. I think they will score! 2-0 Wolves.
