SEASON REVIEW PART ONE: JUNE 2004

Over the next two weeks we'll be reviewing the season gone, we'll look back at the key events from each month, there will be an end of season quiz, we'll analyse the interactive match ratings results this season and we'll ask you to vote in our end of season polls. First though it's time to reflect back on the formative months of the campaign as we go back to June, July and August 2004.

June 2004

Five players left QPR at the start of June, Steve Palmer, Dennis Oli, Richard Pacquette, Ben Walshe and Terrell Forbes were all released.

Palmer ended up as player coach for the MK Dons. Terrell Forbes stayed on a month to month basis for a short time and Pacquette, Oli and Walshe moved into non league football.

The fixtures lists were published and Rangers found themselves kicking off life back in the Championship at home to Rotherham, ending the season at Ninian Park and enjoying a lovely Boxing Day journey to Plymouth.

Rangers spent much of June securing the services of the previous seasons key players, Marc Bircham became the first to commit his future to the club when he signed a new three year deal, Paul Furlong put pen to paper on a one year deal, and Marcus Bean also signed up until 2006.

However Clarke Carlisle decided that life at QPR was not for him anymore and he joined Championship newcomers Leeds on a bosman free transfer.

A boardroom shake up saw “the gang of three”, Chief Executive David Davies, Club Chairman Nick Blackburn and plc Chairman Ross Jones all leave the club. Bill Power stepped up to become Rangers Chairman and Mark Devlin returned to the club as the new Chief Executive.
