MAGILTON'S ARRIVAL TO SCUPPER MOVES?
Saturday 6th June 2009

Dexter Blackstock and Damien Delaney have both been linked with a move away from Loftus Road for some time now, will the arrival of the new QPR boss change things? We look at that and round up all the others news in and around Loftus Road this past week.

So Jim Magilton is the new manager of Rangers and according to the announcement of his appointment he will be choosing his assistant in the coming weeks. A logical move would be for John Gorman, his number two from Ipswich to join up with his former boss once again. However that does leave you wondering what will happen to Gareth Ainsworth next season.

The popular winger has twice steered the club through difficult times this season and it would be nice to see him continue at Rangers in some capacity. His name has mysteriously been removed from the staff directory on the official website though and you would assume he is in discussions with Magilton as to his future role. Ainsworth still has a year left on his playing contract and if that's all he is offered at QPR the chances of him moving on will increase.

Magilton's arrival has been commented on by two former Rangers' stars with David Bardsley and Bradley Allen having different takes on the situation.

Bardsley told the official website he was fully behind Magilton's appointment. "Jim was a great player and I have a lot of time for him," he said. "With Jim and his ideas we've got a chance."

However Allen sounded a note of caution 'How long he's going to be given to move Rangers towards those play offs is going to be interesting." He told the BBC. 'It's a big job at Queens Park Rangers. These new owners want success, instant success."

Meanwhile Damien Delaney has been talking about his much mooted move to Magilton’s former club Ipswich Town and he admitted to The Ealing Gazette he doesn’t really know if it will happen.

"I don't want to go shooting my mouth off about Ipswich without knowing whether they really want me and whether Rangers want to let me go.” He said. "It's one thing to be wanted, it's another for clubs to agree a transfer." Dexter Blackstock’s move to Nottingham Forest may also be under review following the arrival of Magilton and Lee Camp’s switch in the same direction has also gone very quiet of late.

Meanwhile we are now being linked with two of Magilton’s former players from Portman Road with both Jon Walters and David Norris allegedly being tracked by their old boss. I expect both are paper talk, it’s an easy story to link ex bosses with their old players.

Finally some brief news on two former R’s both looking to secure deals with League Two side Barnet.

Jake Cole is set to be offered a contract at Underhill following his release from Loftus Road this summer. Cole impressed Bee’s boss Ian Hendon during a loan spell last season and he is hopeful of bringing him back on a permanent basis with wages set to be the potential stumbling block.

Meanwhile Paul Furlong could extend his player career into another season with Barnet offering him a new one year deal. Furlong is said to be mulling over his decision, if he accepts it will be playing professional football into his forty second year, a fantastic achievement for the Loftus Road hero.
