Monthly Awards Vote - December & January

We have a double monthly awards vote for you to consider now as we ask you to think back over the last two months of action and pick your choice of best player, match and goal from December and January.

What with Christmas getting rather, well Christmassy, the December vote got a bit overlooked. Apologies that for that but let’s catch up on it now and open the usual voting for January at the same time.

December

First though a brief reminder on the events of December, a relatively busy period of football that saw us play six times but pick up just two points along the way, losing four of our games.

We kicked off with a disappointing one all home draw against West Brom before a visit to Anfield ended in a pretty comprehensive 1-0 defeat. Things didn’t get better back on home soil either as we lost the next two in a row at Loftus Road. First we fought back from two down against Sunderland, only to chuck it away in the last minute and lose 3-2 before Manchester United came to town to run up a routine 2-0 win.

A goal a piece at Swansea saw the sides share the points as 2012 approached but by New Years Eve we were tasting defeat again, this time at Arsenal when a Robin Van Persie strike proved enough for The Gunners on the day.

We only scored four goals in the six games with Heidar Helguson continuing his decent form by grabbing half of them, the opener against West Brom and the first against Sunderland whilst Jamie Mackie also got a monthly brace with the second goal against The Mackems and the equaliser at Swansea.

January

January also saw us face six fixtures; three were league matches with the remainder being FA Cup ties.

Norwich kicked off 2012 at Loftus Road and we continued our rotten form by falling to a 2-1 defeat, helped in no small part by Joey Barton’s contentious red card.

A trip to MK Dons for a third round FA Cup match was next up, and despite Helguson securing us a replay it proved to be Neil Warnock’s last match in charge, he was removed 24 hours later and swiftly replaced by Mark Hughes. Hughes got his QPR career up and running at Newcastle where an organised performance wasn’t enough to bring any points home as Leon Best’s goal proved to be the only one of the game.

Sparky’s first win came two days later at HQ when MK Dons were finally dispatched 1-0 to send Rangers into a fourth round meeting with Chelsea which ultimately ended in a another single goal loss.

Before that though Hughes and QPR won a crucial relegation six pointer at home to Wigan 3-1 in a match that saw the renaissance of Akos Buzsaky’s R’s career and just might prove to be an extremely valuable three points.

The goal scoring rate went up in January so you have six goals to choose from including Barton’s opener against Norwich, Helguson and Gabbidon’s efforts in the MK Dons tussles, as well as the three against The Latics. Heidar got things rolling from the penalty spot before Buzsaky and Tommy Smith both contributed stunning strikes.

So dredge those memory banks and send us your votes for both months. Tto have your say simply complete the form below, include your name and your choices for each category (all the players, games and goal from December and January are listed on the drop downs) and, when you are happy with your selection, press submit to send us your vote.

We’ll announce the results on the site next week – thanks for taking part.
