It was a really tight run thing in two of our November
monthly awards categories and perhaps one man in particular could consider
himself a bit unlucky not to have finished on top in one of them. Here are the results
in full.
First the goal of the month prize and after winning his
first one of these last month, Heidar Helguson came mighty close to repeating
that achievement in November.
His first goal against Stoke was one of two goals that
attracted most of your votes but, as it turned out, it was Luke Young’s strike
in the same match just nicks top spot from the Iceman. Young’s goal was good
enough for over 33% of you to pick it as your favourite whilst only 4% less of
you preferred Helguson’s effort.
Heidar also came third, with his goal against Manchester
City accounting for around 17% of your votes whilst significantly less of you
opted for the likes of Bothroyd’s Manchester City effort (8%) and Young’s
second of the month at Norwich (7%).
Here’s Young’s winning goal, as described in Simon’s match
report:
“A minute before the break Rangers hit the front and it was
a beauty. Young started the move and passed to Barton, he found Mackie who in
turn found Wright-Phillips. The little winger slipped it back in to Mackie and
he looked up and picked out Young who’d continued his run into the box. The
former England right back made no mistake as he smashed the ball into the roof
off the net. Stoke had been cut apart by slick passing and good movement and
Rangers went into the sheds a goal to the good.”
On to the match of the month award and there were only two
games that received votes in this category with the defeat at Norwich
completely ignored by you all. That left it to our two five goal thrillers to
battle it out for this months award, the 3-2 home reversal against Manchester
City and the 3-2 away win at Stoke.
Perhaps surprisingly it was the defeat that won the day and
by some distance. 71% of you chose that
as the best match of November ahead of the remaining 28% who went for the Stoke
clash.
Finally it’s the player of the month award and, much like goal
category it was very tight between our top two. The likes of Jamie Mackie (4%),
Luke Young (8%) and Joey Barton (13%) all received votes but 74% of you wanted
either Alejandro Faurlin or Heidar Helguson to finish in first place.
However by a margin of just 5% it’s Ale Faurlin who takes
the November award and just stops Helguson making it two months on the spin in
this section. This is Faurlin’s first player of the month award this season and
his sixth overall in his three seasons with the club. He’s been playing some
fantastic football, is fast becoming the heartbeat of our side and I doubt many
people will begrudge him this little nod.
So that’s it for November, All the winners go through to our
traditional end of the season vote and we’ll be asking you to pick the best
from December as soon as this months fixtures are over. As always, thanks for
taking part.
