It was a month that was historical and great to be a part of
for QPR fans but, let’s be honest, didn’t leave an awful lot of choice for the
various monthly awards votes. Here are the results regardless.
First the goal of the month and in what was a first for this
feature you had just one goal to choose from, so by default the August goal of
the month winner is Tommy Smith for his strike against Everton. Here’s Smith’s goal as described in Simon’s match report:
“When Taarabt sent Smith running into the box his cross was
only cleared to Faurlin. The Argentine shifted it to Buzsaky who in turn picked
out the unmarked Smith. Smith controlled and turned in one fluid movement
before picking his spot and curling the ball low past Howard into the corner to
send the away section wild! A fine goal and Rangers first since Kevin Gallen
scored in that win against West Ham all those years ago.”
The match of the month certainly offered more options but in
reality there was only going to be one winner and it’s no surprise that likes
of Rochdale, Bolton and Wigan were all shunned in favour of the match that was
won by Smith’s goal – Everton away.
That also swept the board with 100% of the votes received,
although art least in this case it was by choice rather than default!
The final category, player of the month, saw a little more
competition for top spot with three players battling it out to take the August
crown.
Danny Gabbidon, Tommy Smith and Shaun Derry were the men who
attracted your votes but in the end it was Derry who cantered away from the
rest to take first place. He picked up over 69% of all the votes we received
leaving Smith in second with around 17% and Gabbidon third with around 13%.
So that’s it for August, All the winners go through to our
traditional end of the season vote and we’ll be asking you to pick the best
from September as soon as this months fixtures are over, which isn’t too far
away.
Thanks for taking part.
