Expected Cull, Positions To Be Filled, And Transfer Bids

Postby kingfisher » Sun Apr 09, 2017 5:06 pm

Thought I would kick off what will be one of the few active topics during the close season by mentioning that Bournemouth are supposedly looking at Smithies, albeit as a second choice. No great surprise there really as he is PL-level. As he has just signed a contract until 2020 I would expect he will cost them a lot!

Now, who do you think is surplus to requirements or has not made the grade?
Who needs to go out on loan to get more experience?
Any of the EDS that could move up to become First Team squad members (despite their results)?
What positions are we needing to fill - RB? Striker? (Certainly not midfield!)
Whom should be culled - e.g. JET or El Khayati?
Who else could be poached - Luongo or Freeman perhaps?
Hoops are coming home, coming home!

40 Guinea FW Idrissa Sylla - keep
41 Republic of Ireland MF Ryan Manning - keep
49 England MF Ravel Morrison (on loan from Lazio) - Unles he can show something of his previous ability let him go

I would like to see another strong centre back to play along side lynch and more Chief to the bench.

We need a midfielder that can put in the killer trough balls to play alongside Luongo

A bit harsh pamment mate
Smithies has saved a few penalties and kept us in lots of games
Yes he's made mistake or two but you have to question the quality of defence in front of him too
He's young in goalkeeper terms so has a bright future wherever he ends up
Has a choice, play first team football with us or be a second choice keeper in the premier league

If we are serious about play offs/promotion we simply need to keep him.

If we are a selling club who'll never get anywhere, sell him.

I'd rather keep him and push on next season, not sell him and become weaker!!

He ain't that good on level with calamity GREEN I think.
We have a tradition of decent keepers he would not be in first 10.

Interesting thoughts on Smithies! So how about if the sale of Smithies was the deciding factor in buying a potent striker or top class CB? :evil
Great list from Surrey Chad and agree with all of his ratings apart from:
a) Morrison being a question mark - for me if he cannot get fit enough to do 90 minutes by now then he is a lost cause. The match sharpness is another matter, but he could have worked his socks off to get fit and obviously has not.
b) I love Mackie's enthusiasm (on and off the pitch) and I was delighted to have him return; but I feel he is not making a significant difference in the current squad. It may be that his style of play does not suit or it may be that he has is slower these days. Wszolek is a better option imho and so I would (reluctantly) put a question mark against his name.

Following from WLS:
QPR will sign Millwall winger Fred Onyedinma at the end of the season, reports claim. The Hull Daily Mail have picked up on reports that the R’s are set to beat Hull and Watford to the signing of the 20-year-old.

he is 1.85m tall, so not going to out-head too many but has scored 6 goals so far this season and only attracted a single yellow card.

I wouldn't have thought that another winger is a priority. Perhaps one for the future.

Yes my thoughts too! For me we should be looking for a pacy RB; another CB; and another striker to work alongside Smith
:evil
Cat amongst the pigeons time: Does anyone else think Ngbakoto, Mackie & Lynch should join the less able in leaving; whereas Furlong, Bidwell, Wszolek & Onuoha has done enough to prove their worth?

If we are to do anything next season then its vital that we get a an on field leader plus a goalscorer.

We have also got to get rid of players like Henry, Caulker, Gladwin, JET, Boryiski, Perch , Robiinson, Mackie, Morrison and El Koyote who IMHO are either not good enough or not committed to the club .

Agree on all those names (even Mackie whose enthusiasm for QPR matches Ollie's) and may well add Lynch as his habit of freezing at critical times and turning his back on ball players worries me. A mass clear out like this though is a repeat of last June and must, yet again, mean next season's team will be equally unused to playing together...
