ASTON VILLA V QPR 1-0 FT

Postby pamment8 » Mon Apr 03, 2017 1:03 pm

A chance for us to avenge our 1-0 home defeat in December.
But a big ask VILLA starting to hit a bit of form.
OLLIE says changes for this game. :tu

Holloway has already hinted at a lot of changes, players will hopefully play well to try and keep their places.

Villa are playing well though so we will need to be a lot, lot better than we were at Derby.

Difficult to judge what impact the performance against Derby will have made, and I am not sure what impact changing some players will make either... Will we see Perch back at right back; Luongo alongside Hall again (what about Goss?); Ngnakoto for Wzsolek; and would you change Smith or Washington?

At the end of the day this is the Championship and anything can (and does) happen!

Team for tonight
A strange starting line up in my opinion
Is Holloway experimenting now we are virtually safe

Can't quite work out the line up myself!

Is Goss in the usual Hall role with Hall a normal central defender?

Or is it standard 4-4-2 with Freeman out wide and Ngbakoto up front alongside Sylla?

Or maybe even 4-1-4-1 with Goss a standard defensive midfielder rather than dropping into a back 3 like Hall does?

We shall see.

Well he certainly has rung the changes - no Manning, Smith, Washington or Perch! The bench has an awful lot of talent waiting to come on... I really hope Ngbakoto gets stuck in and provides that extra dimension that Freeman already offers.
Note that both Robinson & Morrison again missing from the squad...

My bet NWHoop is a 4-2-2-1 formation, with Sylla a lonely figure up front and Ngbakoto & Mackie working from inside forward positions. Not sure how this will succeed but lots of fingers crossed! :yay

5 mins: Nope seems more of the same - being outclassed it seems [1 - 0]

15 mins: Commentary is scathing of how poor Ngbakoto is in defending, leaving our full back exposed once again...

It should ruin any tactics that Villa have in place after watching our last few games!

Big win tonight

Well how do you sum the first half up.
We have majority of possession but only one shot.
Maybe early change up front or an additional forward.

Not an early change after the lacklustre first half, but ones made as the Rs dominate:

65m Sylla off & Smith on
72m Goss off & Washington on
75m Furlong off & Petrasso on

Sounds like far more positive and effective second half but (as all the subs were attacking) we are vulnerable to quick breaks...

FULL TIME: Lost 1-0 and looked a likely draw for much of the second half by all accounts. Cannot help feeling that this, like Derby, was a question of the wrong team selection... :bumbed

We've dried up yet again, can't seem to score a goal
Brighton will probably make it 3rd loss in a row next game
We look like hasslebaink is back last couple of games by the sound of it
Come on Ollie we can't end the season without a win
We still need to another win or could be a very nervy end to the season

It was a predictable result and our season had petered out completely now. So little to play for. Even Holloway will find it hard to keep them fighting 100% until the end of the season.

Gives him the chance to experiment though and make some decisions on fringe players heading into the summer.

Don't want to end the season on a whimper
We got a London Derby with Brentford and a big game on Friday
I'd expect to end the season on a high, rather than just turn up
It's not professional or good to the loyal fans to play not to win
We have to show we can at least draw with teams like Brighton it bodes well for next season then
