QPR v Barnsley 2 - 1 FT 46 pts & 14th in table

Postby kingfisher » Mon Mar 06, 2017 2:33 pm

Thought I would open up this one for discussion! :wink

Yet another physical side and with pace. They beat us 3-2 earlier in the season and will be looking to move up into Play Off contention.... Ollie is quoted in WLS as saying he expects to rotate players as he feels some were tired against Preston. The article also said:

Holloway is hoping Ryan Manning is fit enough to start, having left him on the bench against Cardiff after the youngster picked up a knock in training ahead of the game. Luke Freeman is available again after suspension, while Pawel Wszolek is also in contention for a return to the starting line-up.
“It’s all about having your squad, having them all together and working hard for each other,” Holloway said. “To be honest it’s really difficult to pick my team. The level of work and commitment they’re giving me, every one of them can knock my door down and say ‘why aren’t you picking me?’ and that’s what I want.

Here 's my guess:
Smithies/ Furlong Onuoha Lynch Bidwell/ Manning Hall/ Wzsolek Ngbakoto/ Smith Sylla

It's another typically touch Championship match. I wouldn't expect more than the odd goal in it.

I expect Mackie to drop to the bench, probably for Wzsolek.

Can't see him changing Washington and Smith up front.

Manning will come in for Goss if fit.

Will be hard game but most games are at this time of season.
Barnsley have picked up a good few away points this season.
But we are capable of winning. :tu

Well my guess was out. Here is the actual selection:

Smithies/ Perch Onuoha Hall Bidwell/ Manning Luongo/ Wzsolek Freeman Ngbakoto/ Sylla
and the Subs are Ingram/Furlong/Doughty Goss/ Washington Smith

Nobody could have predicted that team.

I understand a bit of rotation but he has dropped in form players! Questionable.

Mackie and Lynch miss out completely. Perch keeps his place ahead of Furlong though?

In the prediction comp we have made history as not one of the first scorer predictions is even starting the game!!

Good point NWHoop re the team selection! :wink

7 mins: Rangers take the lead in W12! Wszolek's cross is helped on by Freeman, before Sylla guides the ball home from 10 yards. Get in! [1-0]

And that, kingfisher, is why we don't pick the team :rofl

Sylla taking his opportunity!

Long way to go though.

Lots of chances at either end, Perch has hit the bar but also been booked and he is usually a ticking time bomb!

66 mins: ⚽️ GOAL! Rangers finally have a second. It's also Sylla's second of the evening, as he turns home Wszolek's right-flank cross at close range. [1-0] (Own goal it seems in all honesty but who cares!) :yay

79 mins: ⚽️ Goal. Barnsley reduce the deficit. A ball forward deceives Rangers' Hall, and sub Bradshaw nips in to round Smithies and slide home. [2-1] (Said on radio commentary to have been a result of Grant Hall slipping but still a soft goal...)

87 mins: Final Rangers substitution. Ravel Morrison ON, Yeni Ngbakoto OFF. [2-1]

90+5= FT and PHEW! :yay

Great result, a top half finish has to be the aim now.

Good to see players fighting for places!

Away from QPR the relegation scrap looks like it could be an incredible fight between 5 teams - separated by 4 points:

19 Burton 38
20 Blackburn 37
21 Wolves 36
--------------------------------
22 Bristol City 35
23 Wigan 34

I fancy Birmingham to get sucked in to the battle at least too - they have no confidence and are on the slide whereas the teams below them are all finding points and scrapping away and gradually catching them up.

So we're now winning games using the entire squad...that is very, very encouraging!

Bodes well for next season, still say we need that commanding midfielder and captain though. We only need one or two more and we can give play offs a real go next year.

Agree with you re needing a commanding Captain, although I'd like to see him in defense like Clint Hill. It feels like defense is where the money needs to be spent...we've had just one clean sheet this year and only 4 I think all season.

We're winning now but they still feel like nervy, fragile wins...cut out conceding and I think we'll really be in with a shout next season :yay

We could have scored six last night, but to be fair we might have conceded three in the first half.It was an exciting game that we dominated. Freeman was great again, a real find a new Cookie. What can you say about Sylla, he works hard and seems to have the knack of scoring. Washington has so much confidence compared to three months ago. I like this team/ squad.Next season we should really be challenging.
Still not convinced by Ravel though. Didnt seem to make sense to me to bring him on but hey we won.
