Which formation?

Postby e17hoop » Sun Feb 12, 2017 4:55 pm

With the addition of Smith I can see value in 2 up top but am not sure we have the defensive ability to manage with 3 at the back - so what would be your choice?

Whilst I have gone for 343 that's just my view.
But surely you adjust your formation according to whom you play

I like the Formation with Hall dropping from defensive midfield to a central defender of 3 when we lose the ball and vice versa when we have it.

But it isn't the type of formation to play on the front foot, it only worked well against Reading and Newcastle.

But we don't have the central midfielders to pay 4-4-2. Luongo and Manning are too lightweight for that.

I'd like us to play 4-3-3 really.

Smithies
Furlong Hall Lynch Bidwell
Luongo Manning
Morrison
Wzsolek Smith Freeman

Tend to agree re Luongo & Manning. Both are attacking CM and it is obvious that Ollie believes Perch or Hall (latter is better) is the DCM that should provide support for the Back 4. Trouble is we have nobody who can really make decisive forward passes or hold up play with confidence. Both Luongo & Manning were caught out frequently by a rampaging Huddersfield and, in truth, Freeman is better than either as a ACM. The mix there is not right yet... In all fairness, I am not sure that Washington & Smith are the right duo up front either. Washington's lack of ball-control and defensive errors worry me, and I wonder if Sylla might be a better choice (or even Wzsolek if he can be spared from his new RB duties).
