How many points do you need to stay up

Postby Rick » Thu Feb 09, 2017 11:36 am

I know in the prem its around 36 points but I have no idea what the rule of thumb is in the championship. Its been a long time since we were in this position.

Not that long Rick!

General rule of thumb is that you need 50 points to guarantee staying up. 45 gives you hope.

Not sure which I find more depressing, that you thought to ask that question Rick, or that we have only 34 points... :bumbed

Sorry mate, it was just a random thought when I saw the table yesterday. Im sure we will be fine, 16 points from 16 games seems straightforward. Though I suspect it will be 16 from 15 games on Sunday

Agree about Huddersfield, they are impressive at the moment! I think all this just goes to show what difference confidence makes to a squad. We have a decent Championship squad now and there are players pushing really hard to succeed, but it is at times a fragile confidence we are seeing. Blackburn had that fragile look but we totally failed to deliver a killer punch in the first half and then capitalise. Once that confidence goes we see them resorting to lobs up field and 'ping-pong football', rather than playing their way out of trouble and into worthwhile attacks.

yes 34 only points, only just over half of the season gone, the team are playing better football than last year and with some exciting players coming through and joining us.

I think we are in a better position than most. Glass half full people. :pray

Last season 41 kept you up, 42 the year before, 45 and 55 the years before.

It comes down to the quality of the division (obvs) and how poor the bottom 3 are. My guess is that it'll all be over by Easter.
