Newcastle v QPR 2-2 FT

see also separate blog posts re team selection quandary too - My Starting Eleven & Newcastle Tonight

Bookies showing 2/5 on a Newcastle win; 4/1 on a draw; and 8/1 on a QPR win. Score on 3-0 expected apparently, but let's hope we can frustrate them enough in midfield to upset them!

I guess even a 5-0 win will be progress.

Would definitely take a draw, I imagine Holloway is thinking the same so if they score early it will throw our tactics out of the window and could be a long night.

If we do not try to dominate possession but instead focus upon disrupting their play up the field then we always have a chance of scoring on a breakaway. This is indeed as we played against Reading (successfully) but this is Newcastle, which is even more talented, so the team must work as a unit, covering each other and hunting in pairs for possession. The Magpies have been beaten four times at home, so even this quality side can be beaten! It all depends upon which QPR side turns up - the one against Reading or the one against Burton on Saturday!!

I nearly got it perfect! Freeman on the bench though. The team that Ollie selected is:

Smithies
Furlong Onuoha Lynch Bidwell
Perch Manning Luongo
Wzsolek Mackie Washington

Subs: Ingram, Cousins, Doughty, Lualua, Petrasso, Goss, Freeman

Interesting that we have had 67% possession and actually been doing things with it! Both the Sky commentators are going on about how good QPR are in comparison to the Magpies: 'take away Shelvey and what has the impact been of the forwards - none' & 'QPR want to win, Newcastle expect to win'!!

Such a contrast to Saturday and perhaps indicates how important Manning & Mackie are to midfield and attack

Superb,as good as Reading if not better on the ball.

They are lucky to be level. Didn't expect to be saying that!

Agreed and Shelvey is so good that he compensates for others having a poor performance! The crowd must be above 40,000 but can clearly hear the 610 QPR supporters!! :yay :yay :yay

Good result (even if my 2-1 prediction goes)!
Header beats Furlong, leaving Smithies again no chance, and at the other end Clark heads back into his own goal to make it 2-2. Shelvy's initial handball and leg lock on Mackie should have resulted in a red card from any decent ref!

Fair result!! Now 18th on 34pts. SMITHIES got MotM award once again!

What I don't get is why we played like a pub team against burton
And we can get points at reading and Newcastle away
Great result and a bonus point I didn't expect us to get

Only differences were the absence of Manning & Mackie (and inclusion of Doughty & Lualua) and a really off day from Luongo (possibly because he was trying to cover for Doughty too, not sure). Tonight we saw total effort and no holds barred against a quality side.
