| PATSY'S AB FAB GOAL SEALS
RANGERS VICTORY
A Rangers team
packed with a mixture of youth and Gino Padula ran out comfortable
3-0 winners at Yeading. This was a final chance for a bit of match
practice for certain 1st teamers and just a chance for a run for
some of the kids.
Langley, Doudou and Padula from the
main 1st team squad lined up alongside young keeper Jake
Cole. Nathan Stamp and Lyndon Duncan joined Padula in the back
three. Patsy Gradley, Wes Daly and Ben Walshe teamed up with Langley
in midfield leaving a front three of Doudou, Pacquette and Brian
Fitzgerald.
Despite having plenty of the ball
Rangers were struggling to create clear-cut chances. A cow patch of
a pitch did not help their cause. The Watford manager had a moan
about it the other day and I can see why now. It was like a park
pitch with a stand next to it. Terrible!
Doudou should have opened the scoring
on two separate occasions. He buggered up a seemingly routine
one-on-one with the keeper and blazed another effort over bar, stand
and fence when it seemed easier to score. The opener when it came
was a well-worked effort.
Ben Walshe, having one of his more
industrious outings slipped a fine ball into the feet of Doudou, he
crossed for Pacquette to duff his shot into the ground to wrong foot
the keeper. At the other end Yeading only had one real effort at
goal and this was well saved by the impressive youngster Cole.
Rangers' lead could have been more had
the keeper not saved well from direct freekicks from Walshe and
Langley. Langley was playing in his favoured central midfield role
but was finding it difficult to dictate the play.
No half time changes were made but a
chat from Timmy Breacker seemed to have fired the lads up. The
second half started in a far more purposeful fashion. Rangers' set
about Yeading and it seemed only a matter of time before another
goal arrived.
Before Rangers netted another Yeading
had a headed goal ruled out for offside. Quite how the fella managed
to get himself in front of a defence lined up on the six-yard box
only he will know.
Rangers' second goal was an absolute
belter. Following tenacious work from Fitzgerald, Daly picked up the
ball and cut across field. He worked himself an opening and let fly
with his left foot from twenty yards. The keeper could do nothing as
the ball screamed past him into the top corner.
The third almost arrived when Doudou
twisted and turned in the box only to see his effort cannon off the
bar and over. In the final minute Patsy Gradley produced a moment of
sublime skill to score number three.
He picked the ball up outside the box
and dribbled at the defence. He beat three players on the edge with
quick footwork, cut inside another and fired a low effort off the
keepers near post and in. It was a terrific moment for the youngster
who looks certain to be shown the door by Holloway.
Of the first team squad on show the
most impressive was Gino Padula. He started off in a back three
before playing the last twenty minutes at wingback. He looked
equally adept at both and should prove to be a vital squad man as
the season progresses. As for the others, Langley seemed a little
jaded but grew stronger as the game progressed. The most worrying
thing however was the attitude and application of Pacquette.
For a man slapped on the transfer list
he doesn't seem that keen to make an impression. He is lazy and
wants to make everything a party piece rather than making sure of
the easy ball. He has all the attributes to be a fine player but
there appears to be a mental block up there somewhere.
No fresh injuries as far as I know so
we are ready for Chesterfield on Saturday. Come on you R's.
